The City School.
Co-ordinator: Jeremy Till
The City School is a large secondary school with a current role of 1481. The students ages range from 11-16. Within the student group there is a broad range of capabilities. The school applied for specialist status in Business and Enterprise and aquired this status in September 2005. This has enabled the school to promote ethical, environmental and global issues.
The driver of the environmental issues and awareness is the assistant Head Teacher Ken Dunn whose unrelenting enthusiasm for the topic has resulted in various accolades for himself.
As part of the BSF (Building Schools for the Future) program The City School is due to be re-built in the not too distant future. The current learning environment at the school leaves a lot to be desired.
Our project involves the promotion and raising awareness of environmental and sustainability issues. Ken Dunn has already successfully campaigned for a wind turbine and a new biomass bioler for the school as part of his campaign.
Expectations:
- Research and expand upon the current BSF outline guide.
- Raise awareness within the school and surrounding community
- Make the City School school an exemplar BSF project.
- Liase with the architects for the new School design
- Research sustainability issues within the community
